THE RECORD BREAKING 2009 BURTON AWARDS
The Tenth Anniversary event, whose theme was "A Perfect Ten," was one of the best programs ever held by the Burton Awards. The function was at the Library of Congress on June 15, 2009. The awards featured presentations to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Author Bryan Garner, New York State Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye (retired), Shiela Bair, Chair of the FDIC, and winner 2009 Morrison & Foerster Regulatory Reform Award and renowned television screenwriter David E. Kelley. Jane Krakowski, Star of the television show "30 Rock" presented the "Law in Entertainment and the Arts Award" to David E. Kelly. The program was followed by a cocktail hour in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress and dinner on the Atrium level. Leading song writer and singer Vonda Sheppard rounded out the evening with spectacular performances of "Searchin' My soul" and "I only want to be with you." These hit songs were originally performed by Vonda Sheppard on the popular television show Ally Mcbeal. Over 300 guests attended included many of America's finest judges, managing partners of the largest law firms in America, and law school deans from across the nation.

Nature of Burton Awards: The awards program is designed to reward major achievements in the law ranging from literary awards to the greatest reform in law. The awards are selected, generally, by professors from Harvard Law School, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Michigan Law School, and a judge, among others. Judge Richard Posner (7th Circuit US Court of Appeals) and Judge Alex Kozinski (9th Circuit US Court of Appeals), Supreme Court Judge Carol Corrigan of California, and James Ward, California Court of Appeal (retired) are honorary members on the board of directors.
