Reform In Law
The 2007 "Reform in Law" Award was presented for the restyling of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The recipients were two federal rules committees: the Advisory Committee on Civil Rules and the Standing Committee on Federal Rules and legal-drafting consultant Joseph Kimble, a professor at Thomas Cooley Law School. The awards were given for the enormous effort to revise the federal rules for clarity, consistency, and a more plain and understandable style. The project took almost four years to complete and produced a complete stylistic overhaul.
The selection was made under the direction of the Honorable Jim Ward, Chair of the "Reform in Law Committee," and it were spotlighted at the awards event on June 4, 2007.
The 2006 "Reform in Law" Award was presented to the California Judicial Council for rewriting the California criminal jury instructions. The California Judicial Council is the umbrella organization for the largest court system in the nation. Previously, the organization was also honored for reforming and rewriting the civil jury instructions.
