James T. Hale Honored as a “Legend in the Law” by Burton Awards for Legal Achievement

MINNEAPOLIS (May 29, 2007) — Faegre & Benson LLP is pleased to announce that James T. Hale has been honored with one of five national Legends in the Law Awards from the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement. The Legends in the Law Awards recognize the lifetime achievements of general counsel at major corporations.

“Jim Hale is truly a ‘Legend in the Law’ and a leader in the legal community—not only for his outstanding professional accomplishments, but also for his dedication to many local community organizations,” said Philip S. Garon, the former chairman of Faegre & Benson and a partner in the firm’s corporate practice. “Faegre & Benson was honored to nominate him for this well-deserved award.”

Jim is the former executive vice president, secretary and general counsel of Target Corporation. He retired from that post in June 2004, concluding a 24-year term as Target’s general counsel, and is currently a frequent speaker on corporate governance issues at continuing legal education and director education programs. Jim is also a former partner at Faegre & Benson, where he practiced law for 14 years. Early in his career, he served as a law clerk on the United States Supreme Court for Chief Justice Earl Warren, and he is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Minnesota Law School.

In addition to his legal and professional achievements, Jim has made significant contributions to the Minneapolis/Saint Paul community. He has served in numerous positions, often as chair, on the boards of directors of several local organizations, including the Legal Aid Society, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, the Minnesota Historical Society and Twin Cities Public Television.

The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement is a national program run in association with the Library of Congress and its Law Library. Recipients will be honored during a June 4 dinner in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
