Adam Umanoff
Executive Vice President and former General Counsel, Edison International

Adam Umanoff is the Executive Vice President and former General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, one of the nation’s largest utilities, and competitive businesses engaged in emerging sectors of the electric industry. He is responsible for the legal affairs of the enterprise and a member of Edison’s executive management committee.
Over the course of a 40-year career, Adam has devoted himself to advancing the clean energy transition to combat climate change. He is a champion of Edison’s strategy to decarbonize California’s economy in aid of the state’s ambitious climate goals and has worked to protect customers and communities from the threat of wildfire. Prior to joining Edison, Adam was a partner in several international law firms focused on the development and financing of infrastructure and renewable energy projects. While in private law practice, he was recognized by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal as one of California’s Top 100 Lawyers and Top 25 Clean Tech Lawyers and ranked by Chambers in Band 1 for both U.S. and Global Projects: Renewables and Alternative Energy. He also served as General Counsel then President and CEO of a global wind power company. Adam sits on the board of directors of Bet Tzedek which provides pro bono legal services to the disadvantaged throughout greater Los Angeles and on the litigation and legal committees of the Edison Electric Institute, the trade association for the nation’s investor-owned utilities. He also served on the advisory counsel to the Dean of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
A New Yorker, Adam received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. Adam and his wife Barbara, a retired educator, have been happily married for over 40 years, live in Manhattan Beach, California and have three adult children and three grandchildren. Outside of work and family, Adam is an avid downhill skier and eager but often frustrated golfer.
