Our non-profit program has grown to include the finest general counsel, writers, journalists, professors, managing partners, members of the executive branch and lawyers who have contributed to the public interest.
Our next event is set to welcome over 500 judges, partners, professors, deans, general counsel, and members of the legal community, who will join together for the preeminent awards in law.
Hailed as one of the most coveted architectural triumphs in the United States, the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress is ornate and awe-inspiring. The institution, which began in 1800, is the center of reading, research and writing in the United States.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg joined us for our Eighteenth Annual Event to accept the "Book of the Year in Law" Award. We are also honored that U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has also joined us, and U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justices John Paul Stevens (retired), Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Antonin Scalia (deceased) have attended the awards program.
We were truly honored that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer explained the impact of his book, The Court and the World: American Law and the New Global Realities.
Thanks to Co-Chairs Tom Sager of Ballard Spahr and, Les Parrette of Novelis, and Vice-Chair of the program, Yabo Lin, a partner at Sidley Austin, a separate program is presented for general counsel. This year, a Special Committee was appointed to consider nominees.
At one event, we were delighted when actress Michelle Pfeiffer joined her husband, David E. Kelley, who won an award for legal writing in a television program.
To keep the event exciting, a debate on law called "Rapid Fire" is included in the program. Shown here debating is veteran litigator Neal Katyal, former Acting Solicitor General of the United States.
Each year the program presents a concert by outstanding stars. Shown here performing is Bernadette Peters who is now the lead in the hit show Hello, Dolly!
We are planning the next program to be even bigger and better!
In the first edition of our newsletter, we hope to bring you up to date on our progress towards the Nineteenth Annual Event. We are excited about the next awards program and always welcome your input. Click Here to Read the 2017 Burton Awards Bulletin.
