Betty Whelchel

Betty Whelchel is an attorney with nearly 40 years of experience in international finance and public policy. She recently retired from BNP Paribas, where she was the U.S. Head of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs and built out BNP Paribas’ first U.S. governmental relations and public policy team. Before moving to that role, Betty was BNP Paribas’ General Counsel for its U.S. wholesale operations and its intermediate holding company.
Betty is active in industry initiatives related to financial regulatory reform and corporate governance. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Institute of International Bankers’ Board of Trustees and chaired its committee on legislative and regulatory developments. She also has served on several committees at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, including the Task Force on the Lawyer’s Role in Corporate Governance, and was a member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation. She is a member of the Women’s Forum of New York.
