PLEASE READ:

AWARD CRITERIA: Once again this year, 25 partners from the submissions from the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms will be chosen for “Distinguished Law Firm Writing Awards.” Law firm winners must demonstrate clarity, cogency, and persuasive legal writing. Their articles must be published in the preceding year. Judges on the distinguished Legal Writing Awards committee were selected on the basis of their understanding, experience, and passion for legal writing.

Only one article may be submitted on behalf of a law firm. There is no submission fee or cost.

Only managing partners, marketing directors or their designees may nominate an applicant.

At least one author or coauthor must be a partner or counsel at the firm at the date the article was written. There is no maximum number of authors allowed on the byline. All winners must wait three years before re-applying unless other partners or counsel are co-authors and are involved as authors in newer articles.

Please provide the name, address, telephone number, fax and email of each co-author. Articles must have a publication date between October 16, 2022 and November 17, 2023, even if they are actually printed at a later date.

The subject of the article can be devoted to any legal topic.

The article may have appeared in any publication, whether written for lawyers or for consumers.

Any publication with a full-time editor will be considered. Books and book chapters are not eligible for nominations. Blog posts will only be considered if they are published on a site with a full-time editor.

Presently, the author may not be a full-time academic.

This completed nomination form, together with a copy of the article, should be submitted online at www.burtonawards.com and must be received by November 17, 2023. No submissions will be accepted after this date. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please note: In addition, you must submit a 125 word narrative biographical summary written in the third person and a high resolution, color photograph at the time of nomination.

Policy: The first author who wishes to attend the Gala is charged a contribution of $2,000 to the “Burton Foundation for Legal Achievement.” Each additional winning law firm author who wishes to attend the Gala will be charged a contribution of $3,000. The funds, which are tax deductible to the greatest degree allowed by law, are used to defray the costs of transportation and travel for students and academic judges in law.
